Overview

Luxury living in harmony with wildlife is the concept behind Chaaya Wild, a deluxe resort hotel in the buffer zone of Yala National Park. The hotel blends subtly into scrub forest in a scenic location, stretching from a lagoon to the border of Kirinda beach, which boasts some of Sri Lanka’s finest unspoilt sand dunes. Animals may wander through the village unhindered as the management pursues a policy of co-existing with nature.

Rooms

Well-appointed chalet type air conditioned deluxe rooms with verandahs are scattered around a ten acre jungle that stretches from a breathtaking beach to a lagoon. Chalets have wooden floors and interiors that resemble a camp, with textures and materials such as canvas, abstract animal prints that highlights a rugged, rustic look.

Satellite TV with in-house movies. Mini-bar and electric kettle with complimentary tea/coffee. Telephone with IDD facilities. Moveable emergency lamp (which comes in handy during the night). Mini-fridge. Bathroom with shower. Hot and cold water. Hair dryer.

Jungle Chalets

The Jungle Chalets are situated inland; walk out to the veranda and spot the wild visitors that would be roaming the back yard.

Beach Chalets

The Beach Chalets constructed on stilts are equipped with a private veranda that opens out to a view of the Indian Ocean.

Interconnecting Rooms: No

Family Rooms: Yes (Garden Suite With Extra Beds Available)

Fine Dining

The lounges, restaurant and bar are all housed in separate stylishly decorated pavilions designed with high timber roofs, polished cement floors and opens on to the swimming pool and the surrounding nature. The main restaurant and roof deck bar is located on the upper floors of the reception area and has spectacular 360 degree views of the Yala jungles and lagoon where wild animals often come to drink water. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served at the main restaurant. Snacks are served at the roof deck.

Facilities

A sprawling swimming pool. TV room, billiards table and board games. The Chaaya Wild offers jungle trekking, bird watching and beach hiking on incredible sand dunes on one of Sri Lanka's most beautiful and unspoilt beaches. There is an observation deck for a bird’s eye view of surroundings. Many a lucky visitor has seen leopard on the rocks which border the hotel. The hotel arranges 2 hour night safaris through the buffer zone of the park to provide an insight to nocturnal wildlife.

Only minutes away is the entrance to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s best wildlife reserve, which is arguably the best place in the world to observe leopards during daylight hours. About 1.5 hours distant is Uda Walawe National Park which is the island’s premier elephant sanctuary where herds in excess of 100 individuals are sometimes seen.

What We Say

Chaaya Wild has the great advantage of a location within the ‘intermediate zone’ of Yala Natonal Park. This means that the surrounding jungle has plenty of wildlife and you get a real ‘safari’ feel especially in the evenings when wild animals including elephants come close to the hotel premises.

"We have returned from an excellent holiday in Sri Lanka.

Elephant Island Tours is a truly customer focused organisation. Our first connect was with Justin in the London Office. He listened carefully to understand our particular needs and apparitions. We were most impressed by his speed of reply, helpful suggestions and advice. The tour fulfilled all our needs. You cannot overestimate the importance of the first contact - Thank you Justin.

The shop window of your organisation was our driver guide Mahendra. He proved to be very knowledgeable and a brilliant driver. He quickly became our friend. He was so helpful in all ways He never let us down. The car was more than adequate for our needs and always clean - Thank you Mahendra."

"I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Sri Lanka where I booked a 6 day overland tour through Elephant Island.

Absolutely faultless. The detailed itinerary put together by Amanda at EI incorporated absolutely everything we wanted to do and gave us a fantastic overview of Sri Lanka, its culture, its wildlife and its history.

Our driver Rohan was exceptional. He drove us with care, explained everything in detail and offered us numerous additional stops for activities such as elephant rides, a look around Kandy market and a trip to Nuwara Eliya. I would make sure, next time I go to Sri Lanka, that I had Rohan driving me around.

If you're going to Sri Lanka you MUST book through EI! The whole process was so smooth and ensured that I had the most amazing time in what is surely one of the world's most beautiful countries."
